Tuesday 10 February 2026 marks Safer Internet Day. This year’s theme is “Smart tech, safe choices - exploring the safe and responsible use of AI”.

Dudley’s Community Safety Partnership - Safe & Sound is supporting UK Safer Internet Centre to help keep people safe online. Join in the conversation on social media by using #SaferInternetDay2026

This Safer Internet Day, we’re exploring the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on our everyday lives. We’ll be looking at how AI can be used positively, whilst also sharing advice and guidance to help people to use AI safely, responsibly and confidently.

With the rapid growth of new technology and AI, people are using digital platforms more than ever before. While the internet offers many opportunities for learning, creativity and connection, it can also present risks. These can include misinformation, scams, cyberbullying and pressure to share personal information.

Online safety is about helping everyone understand how to protect themselves and others when using the internet. This includes knowing how to keep personal information private, recognising unsafe or suspicious content, understanding how online algorithms and AI tools work, and knowing where to go for help and support if something doesn't feel right.

It’s especially important that people are supported to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to make safe choices online, particularly vulnerable and young people in our community. This means encouraging open conversations about online experiences, promoting positive online behaviour and helping young people understand the long-term impact of their digital footprint.

The UK Safer Internet Centre provides a wide range of free educational resources for children and young people of all ages. These resources cover topics such as voice assistants, chatbots, social media, online gaming and the ethical considerations around using AI and new technologies responsibly.

They also offer practical advice and guidance for parents, carers and grandparents, helping them talk openly about online safety, and support children and young people to use technology in safe and positive ways.
