Enjoy a safe and spectacular Bonfire Night
Bonfire Night is a much-loved tradition, bringing families and friends together to enjoy an evening of fireworks and celebration. If you're making plans this year, organised events such as the fireworks display at Himley Hall and Park can be a great way to enjoy the spectacle in a professionally managed environment.
While fireworks can be exciting, they can also have serious consequences when things go wrong. Recent figures show that 158 people in England were admitted to hospital due to firework-related injuries in 2025/26 (according to the Online CPD Academy), a 28.5% increase on the previous year. Meanwhile, admissions to specialist burns units for children with serious firework burns increased by 63% between 2024 and 2025.
The impact extends beyond physical injuries. Fireworks can be distressing for some members of our communities, including older and vulnerable residents. Research by PTSD UK found that more than 90% of people with PTSD or complex PTSD are more affected by random, unpredictable fireworks than by organised public displays.
Animals can also suffer during firework season. According to Redwings Horse Sanctuary, reports of missing dogs increase by around 35% on Bonfire Night, while reports of missing cats rise by 22%.
Wherever you're celebrating, please remember to:
Follow all firework safety instructions carefully
Be considerate of neighbours, particularly older or vulnerable residents
Think about the impact fireworks may have on pets and other animals
Stick to the legal midnight curfew for fireworks
Clear up any firework debris and litter afterwards
